PROFILE
I was born and raised in northern California and then moved to Oregon in 1988. As a young man I was always fascinated by beautiful artwork. I was an oil painter in my younger years and dabbled in photography a little bit. Then in about 1998 I picked up an Outdoor Photographer magazine and as I gazed in awe at all the beautiful images, I decided to give photography a try again.
My earlier work was captured on film using a medium format Pentax 6x7 and 645 camera. With my Pentax cameras I could produce beautiful large detailed prints and still have the advantages of a SLR camera system. But with slide film also comes certain limitations, so I later decided to move to a digital camera. I have been studying photography and taken workshops from some of the top landscape photographers of our day. The work of photographers like John Shaw, Galen Rowell, Brenda Tharp, Charles Cramer and many others, has always been a great inspiration and learning lesson. I have tried to use those lessons and with practice and dedication, improve my art.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I find so much beauty in nature and with my photography I strive to share my vision and emotions I feel every time I witness it. There is such a purity and sense of solitude in nature that inspires me and I see the natural world as a rich display of color, shapes, textures and design. I feel blessed with the ability to be able to take those moments in nature and by using my camera and lens, capture an expression of our spiritual connection to the land. I only hope that my images and prints will evoke the same emotions that I was blessed enough to experience.
